Jared's Baptism Day

Jared was baptized on October 8th, 2011.  It was our smallest baptism because we didn't happen to share the date with anyone and it was soccer season, so a lot of his friends couldn't make it.  But it was a great day nonetheless!  The whole lineup (with the exception of the pianist) consisted of our family, which made the talks, especially, so much more personal.  Sadie gave the baptism talk and Spencer gave the talk on the Holy Ghost.  It was all simple and quick.  Afterwards we snapped a few pictures, thanks to the prodding and photography skills of my very good friend Susan Drybread.

A few hours later, Jared had a soccer game.  You could just tell this kid was burning with emotion from the events earlier in the day.  I've never seen him play like that, with such spirit and such joy.  He made several solid shots on goal, but each time without success.  (A little background -- Jared does not generally score goals.)  But this day, I could see determination in him and at some point in the game, in the third or fourth quarter, he finally made it back towards the goal and kicked the ball in!  He was so excited, I could feel it.

Sometime during my cheering, Jared covered his face and bent over, crying.  My first thought was that he had maybe gotten hurt while I was celebrating, but I quickly realized as I was watching him that he was just so happy and so overcome with emotion that it all came spilling out of him in that moment.  It was a sight to behold.
